Spring Programs for ParentsIt is our pleasure to introduce the line-up of our 2011-2012 spring semester programs. Please be sure to check back for updates and additions.
It has been our goal to provide a great mix of topics that will benefit not only your child, but you as well. Feel free to attend as many programs that are of interest to you. But please remember that all enrolled families are required to attend the General Meeting and one Mini-Course per semester.

SPRING GENERAL MEETINGThursday, February 16, 7 PM When to Say What: Talking to Children about Identity and Diversity
Alison Park is the founder of Blink Consulting, an educational consultancy that is critically rethinking diversity. Since 2005, Blink has collaborated with over 35 Bay Area schools and the EPA, Region 9 to help create communities where all students and adults can thrive. Before Blink, Alison taught for thirteen years in the public, non-profit and private sectors, including Marin Academy and Head-Royce Middle School. Alison earned her B.A. in African Studies at Yale University and two Master’s degrees at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. Mini-courses

Barbara Coloroso has 40 of years experience in teaching young people how to think and act ethically. She explains how to utilize the very stuff of family life — chores, mealtimes, sibling conflicts, bedtimes, allowances, curfews and more — to structure a home that fosters responsible young adults. Her books include Just Because It’s Not Wrong Doesn’t Make It Right and The Bully, the Bullied and the Bystander.

The Case for Make Believe: Saving Play in a Commercialized World
In an era when toys come from television and media companies sell videos as brain-builders for babies, Linn lays out the inextricable links between play, creativity, and health, showing us how and why to preserve the space for make believe that children need to be happy and to become productive adults. Dr. Linn is an Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and Co-founder and Director of the Campaign for a Commercial Free Child.

Amy Williams is a Certified Martha Beck Life Coach specializing in relationships, families and parenting. She has a BA from UC Santa Barbara and is currently enrolled in Continuing Ed Psychology Courses at Stanford University. Kirsten Cameron is a Certified Martha Beck Life Coach with additional training in transpersonal psychology, and practices in the San Francisco area. She holds a degree in Psychology as well as a Master's Degree in Business Administration.
